Image
Emmanuel Eboue has been banned by FIFA, from taking part in football activities for one year, after he failed to pay up his former agent, Sebastien Boisseau. The 32-year-old defender who only signed for Sunderland on a short-team deal in March, will not be allowed to feature for the club until he pays the money. A FIFA statement read: “On 9 September 2014, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to sanction Mr Eboue with a fine of CHF 30,000 for failing to comply with the decision of the single judge of the Players’ Status Committee on the basis of art. 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. “The player was also granted a final period of grace of 120 days to settle his debt, upon failure of which the creditor — Mr Boisseau — would be entitled to request that a one-year ban on taking part in any football-related activity be imposed on Mr Eboue. “Mr Eboue appealed to CAS against the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision, but the appeal was dismissed and the decision of the Discipli...

Image
Today's Verse “But, who so keepth His word, in Him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him.” - I John 2:5 Have you ever heard a quote or saying that won a special place in your heart? It’s a catalyst of promise that brings wonderful joy and meaning to your life. It is something that you love and cherish. The Bible is the beautiful catalyst of hope bestowed from God’s heart to ours. It’s a gift of grace that details His law, His love, and His will. He gaves it to us with great generosity, knowing that it will be a blessing to our life. But, it is important that we know how to properly receive that gift. It should be a beautiful masterpiece that captivates our heart. Whenever we hear it, and abide by it, it becomes a part of us and makes us a new person. We should appreciate it with gratitude. His breathtaking, living presence lives within us. – Commentary by Lisa M. Leto Today's Prayer My Lord, I cannot thank You e...

THE MONTH OF APRIL.

The Month of April: Dedicated to the Holy Eucharist "There is nothing more to be added when we have said 'The Eucharist', since It is Jesus Christ." (St. Peter Julian Eymard) "Every Communion is a new gift which Jesus Christ makes of Himself." (St. Ignatius Loyola) "[T]o the Holy Eucharist we owe the future resurrection of our bodies. Our Savior himself teaches us this, where he says: 'Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead. This is the Bread which cometh down from heaven, that if any man eat of it, he may not die... He that eateth my Flesh, and drinketh my Blood, hath everlasting life, and I will raise him up in the last day (Jn. 5:49,50,55).'" (Dom Gueranger) "This Sacrament, whether as the theme of devout meditation, or as the object of public adoration, or best of all as a food to be received in the utmost purity of conscience, is to be regarded as the center towards which the spiritual life of a Christian...

Collect Almighty ever-living God, who gave us the Paschal Mystery in the covenant you established for reconciling the human race, so dispose our minds, we pray, that what we celebrate by professing the faith we may express in deeds. LAGOS BARS TRADERS FROM DISPLAYING WARES AT OYINGBO MARKET

Image
The Lagos State Government (LASG) on Thursday barred some traders from displaying their wares by the road sides and in the open at Oyingbo Market due to their failure to occupy some of the vacant shops in the multi-million naira new market. A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited the market reports that the traders were barred by a team of officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), a state government-owned agency, and men of the state police command. They were seen parading the market. Mrs Iyabo Olusegun, a trader in the main Oyingbo Market, told NAN that the government wanted the traders to move into the new market complex inaugurated in March 2015 by former Gov. Babatunde Fashola. Olusegun said that part of the delay in taking over the complex was because the traders had yet to resolve issues on right of ownership. “Before the complex was built, some traders owned shops in the old market. Now that it is a new complex, if it is shared according to...

WHY I CALLED OLISEH AFRICA’S GUARDIOLA – PINNICK.

Image
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has insisted he does not have any regrets calling Sunday Oliseh Africa’s Pep Guardiola. Oliseh has been blamed in some quarters, for the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. The former national team captain was contracted last July, but decided to quit after a series of indifferent results, including a draw away to Tanzania in the AFCON qualifying series. “I have no regret calling Oliseh the Pep Guardiola of Africa, it was just to give him a psychological edge,” Pinnick said in Abuja on Wednesday. “We wanted to boost his morale to do the job. It was just a way of encouraging him to get what we wanted him to achieve. “When we employed him, we gave him a four-year plan to turn around our football and during the turbulent period Oliseh resigned and we had to move swiftly to appoint Siasia to lead the team. I must say Siasia and Co did very well but it was just not our de...

NORMALCY WILL SOON RETURN TO FILLING STATIONS NATIONWIDE – NUPENG

Image
The National Union of Petroleum and Natural gas Workers on Wednesday assured that normalcy would soon return to filling stations nationwide if the current tempo of loading at the depots continued till the weekend. The South-West Chairman of the union, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos. Korodo said that the NNPC commenced massive pumping of petrol to its depot at Mosinmi early this week and loading of petroleum trucks had started. “Going round some depots in Lagos, I observed that loading was going on and more filling stations are selling the product at the control price. “Some filling stations that are selling between N130 and N150 will be forced to sell at control price when the market is flooded with petrol. “If NNPC can keep the tempo of the loading till weekend, more filling stations will have petrol and the queue of motorists at filling stations will reduce. “The corporation should ensure that it keeps ...

HISTORY ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY. APRIL 1ST

Image
On this day in 1700, English pranksters begin popularizing the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other. Although the day, also called All Fools’ Day, has been celebrated for several centuries by different cultures, its exact origins remain a mystery. Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes. These included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person. Historians have also linked April Fools’ Day to ancient festivals such as Hilaria, which was celebrated in R...

Mohammed said the Gov...

THE GOSPEL DAILY.

Image
Today's Verse For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. - Romans 6:23 There is nothing simpler or more complex than the heart of this message. It is the basis of the entire Gospel. As sinners, we are dead the moment we are conceived in our mother's womb (Ps 58:3). We enter the world dead in our transgressions and as we live, we let sin reign in our mortal bodies (Ep 2:1-2). There is absolutely no reason why we should be allowed to live in eternity with God. None. We have never done anything worthy of the Lord or worthy of eternity. But praise God! He so loved us that He was willing to give up His life so that we could have life in Him. Who can even fathom the depths of such love? We have no merit before God to say this is what I have done and this is why I should be in eternity. All we can say is, "Lord this is what You have done for me. Thank You for this amazing gift." – Commentary by Sarine Thoma...

Samson Siasia has been acting as the interim coach of the national team, since Sunday Oliseh resigned in February. “We’re going to get a foreign manager for the team,” Pinnick was quoted as sying by Vanguard newspaper. “And we are going to ensure that Nigeria qualify for the World Cup and do exceedingly well, too. “We’ll make them utilise all FIFA windows to play quality friendly matches. “There is nothing to worry about the payment of salary for the foreign manager. JAMB CUT OFF MARK 2016/2017 FOR ALL SCHOOLS – UNIVERSITIES, POLYTECHNIC AND COLLEGES OF EDUCATION.

Image
Following the decisions arrived at the just concluded 2016 JAMB Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria, the 2016 official cut-off mark has been pegged at 180 for Universities, Polytechnic and Colleges of Education. This implies that no higher institution; universities, polytechnics, colleges of education or certificate awarding institutions recognized by JAMB will go below 180. However, they can choose to go above the benchmark of 180. Similarly, the decision to scrap post-UTME was taken. This means that institutions will no longer conduct Post-UTME screenings. According to the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, there is confidence in what JAMB is doing and hence no need to conduct another examination for candidates seeking admission into higher institutions. He further stated that universities that have complaints against JAMB should bring it forward for address. However, the minister directed JAMB to sto...

NAIRA REMAINS N322 TO DOLLAR TWO DAYS AFTER EASTER BREAK.

Image
The Naira on Wednesday maintained its exchange rate at N322 to a dollar. It also remained firm against the two other major currecies, the pound sterlin which exchanged at N448 and the \euro which sold for N355. However, at the official interbank rate, N197, was exchange for a dollar. Some traders at the parallel market told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the high exchange rate was discouraging to customers. They complained that the market had remained dull due to low patronage. Meanwhile, the apex bank, in its last Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, said that excess liquidity in the banking system was contributing to the current pressure in the foreign exchange market. The bank said that the pressure was impacting negatively on consumer prices. (NAN)

Senate President Bukola Saraki has donated N5 million to victims of the recent fire incident at Sabon Gari market in Kano State. The Chairman, Senate committee on Works, Sen. Kabiru Gaya, announced the donation when he paid a sympathy visit to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje in Kano on Wednesday. Gaya, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, said that the magnitude of the inferno would impact negatively on economic lives of the victims. “The Senate president was so much worried and concerned about the unfortunate incident; this is the reason why he asked me to represent him to bring the donation. ”We, the three senators from the state, will also sponsor a motion on the floor of the house for the urgent assistance of the Federal Government to victims of the disaster,” he said. Gaya, who commiserated with the affected traders, prayed God to prevent future occurrence and replenish what they lost in the inferno. TINUBU MADE THE IMPOSSIBLE HAPPEN BY PLACING APC IN POWER – FASHOLA

Image
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has extolled the virtues of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, saying he made the impossible happen by ensuring that an opposition became the ruling party for the first time in Nigeria’s history. Fashola stated this in a congratulatory message to Tinubu during the colloquium organised to mark the APC national leader’s 64th birthday in Abuja. According to the Minister, Tinubu steered the country away from the destruction the immediate past administration was dragging it into. Fashola said, “It was dangerous for Nigeria to keep that administration for another term and the evidence of that was before us. The country was falling apart. You must salute the courage, the passion, the foresight of Asiwaju to reach across and say ‘let us forge a partnership to save Nigerians, to save ourselves’. “On whether or not there could be a merger, everyone said it wasn’t going to happen...
