Blessed Caesar de Bus

He was born on February 3, 1544 at Cavaillian in France. He was the seventh child of the thirteen children of his parents. He first joined the King’s Army and took part in the wars against Huguenots. He also worked sometime in the king’s Navy. He was ordained as a priest in 1582. He returned to Cavaillian and took the position as canon of Salon. He took St. Charles Borromeo as his model after reading the saint’s biography. He led a pious life and also did works of charity while preaching. He worked as a catechist in Aix-in-Provence, France, when that area was in turmoil due to religious wars. He founded the Ursulines of Province and also the Fathers-of Christian Doctrines also called Doctrinarians. He died in Avignon, France on April 15, 1607.

He was beatified by pope Paul-VI on April 27, 1975. He is the patron of modern catechists.
