ST. STEPHEN OF MAR SABA

St. Stephen of Mar Saba

He was born in the year 725 in Julis, a district of Gaza. He was a nephew of St. John of Damascus and entered the monastery at the age of 10 years and got trained up by his nephew. He was ordained at the age of 24 years. He spent about fifty years in the monastery of Saint Sabas (Mar Saba), overlooking the Kidron Valley in the West Bank, east of Bethlehem. He lived a hermit life and he used to place a sign on his door to request other Fathers not to disturb him. But on weekends he came out to serve as a counselor to others, as instructed by his superiors. One day when he was celebrating mass in a room of the monastery and when he raised the Eucharist and recited the words Holy things to the holy, the monastery room was filled with a glorious light at that time. From that moment on, whatever he prayed for during the Eucharist was granted. He became called as a wonder worker due to his miraculous intercessions. He left behind a life of faith and miracles. The probable year of his death was 794 A.D.

We apologize that this daily saint bio for today is coming now.
Thanks and may God continue to bless you our readers.
