Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles - Feast Liturgical Colour: Red. Readings at Mass ________ Entrance Antiphon These are the holy men whom the Lord chose in his own perfect love; to them he gave eternal glory. ________ Collect O God, who by the blessed Apostles have brought us to acknowledge your name, graciously grant, through the intercession of Saints Simon and Jude, that the Church may constantly grow by increase of the peoples who believe in you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. ________ First reading Ephesians 2:19-22 You are no longer aliens or foreign visitors: you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God’s household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and yo

GOD IS OUR ETERNAL SOURCE

Today's Verse “But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ; by whom are all things, and we by him.” – I Corinthians 8:6 Have you ever taken a moment to think about a “spring of life?” It is really an interesting concept to consider – “a source where eternal youth can be found.” Many believe it to be a silly fable, but some may wonder if it really is fictitious? Think about our relationship with God. When we make that important decision, to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, it opens up a whole new pathway in life. God is almighty and omnipotent. He owns and handles everything. We become one with Him through Jesus Christ. He is the source of all that we need – our eternal source. When we live with Him in Heaven, life will be brand new and there will be no more pain or concerns. So, you have to ask yourself the question once again,is there such a thing as a “spring of life?” The answer is ess

SAINT OF THE DAY

About Today Year: C(II). Psalm week: 2. Liturgical Colour: Green.  Saint Otteran Ireland He was abbot of Meath and later came to Iona. He died in 548 and his grave on Iona was greatly revered. As a result the Vikings chose Otteran, the titular guardian of their ancestors’ ashes, as patron of the city of Waterford in 1096. He is now patron saint of the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore. ________ Liturgical colour: green The theological virtue of hope is symbolized by the colour green, just as the burning fire of love is symbolized by red. Green is the colour of growing things, and hope, like them, is always new and always fresh. Liturgically, green is the colour of Ordinary Time, the season in which we are being neither especially penitent (in purple) nor overwhelmingly joyful (in white).

Thursday of week 30 in Ordinary Time  Liturgical Colour: Green. Readings at Mass ________ Entrance Antiphon Cf. Ps 104: 3-4 Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. ________ Collect Almighty ever-living God, increase our faith, hope and charity, and make us love what you command, so that we may merit what you promise. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. ________ First reading Ephesians 6:10-20 Grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power. Put God’s armour on so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics. For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the Sovereignties and the Powers who originate the darkness in this world, the spiritual army of evil in the heavens. That is why you must rely on God’s armour, or you will not be able to put up any resist

MAKING RELATIONS SPECIAL

When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made dinner after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all dad did was reached for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite! When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burned biscuits.” Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she’s real tired. And besides – a little b

About Today Year: C(II). Psalm week: 2. Liturgical Colour: Green. Saint Frei Galvão (1739-1822) Brazil Antônio Galvão was born in the state of São Paulo to a deeply religious family of high social and political status. He was educated by the Jesuits from the age of 13, but although he wanted to become a Jesuit this was judged inopportune because of official persecution of the order (which was suppressed in the Portuguese Empire in 1759). Instead, at the age of 16, Galvão joined the Franciscans and took the name of ‘Anthony of St Anne’ in honour of his family’s devotion to that saint.     He was ordained a priest in 1762 and transferred to São Paulo, where, with only brief intervals, he spent the rest of his life. He was revered as a confessor and a healer, and popular devotion to him was such that both ecclesiastical postings and governmental decrees that would have taken him away from São Paulo soon had to be rescinded. He died there on 23 December 1822, at the Recollec

6 BASIC THINGS THAT COULD SLOWLY KILL YOUR RELATIONSHIP

Image
Many people believe the ultimate thing that could kill a relationship is cheating; couples are so conscious of this act they feel it would be difficult to move on with the relationship once a party is guilty of that offence. Oblivious to this, there are many things that could make a couple split and infidelity may never be raised in cases like that. We all know the dangers involved with cheating and the consequences that may follow. The people involved feel betrayed and may not be able to put that behind them for a while. However, some relationships do break even without the people involved being caught in a cheating web. Certain issues could give the same end result cheating would give if the relationship is not effectively managed. Find below some of the other things that could kill your relationship aside from cheating: 1. Lack of courtesy In relationships, people of different backgrounds and doctrines often come together as one. You really do not expect your part

WHAT GOES AROUND , COMES AROUND

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her. Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe; he looked poor and hungry.  He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you. He said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.  As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she

SAINT OF THE DAY

About Today Year: C(II). Psalm week: 2. Liturgical Colour: Green. In other years: St John of Capistrano (1386 - 1456) He was born in Capistrano in the Abruzzi in 1386. He studied law at Perugia and for some time held the office of a judge. He joined the Friars Minor and was ordained. He travelled throughout Germany, Poland, Transylvania, Moldavia, and Russia, leading an apostolic life, strengthening Christian morals and combating heresy.     When the Turks were invading Europe in the wake of the fall of Constantinople, they laid siege to Belgrade, then a border fort of the kingdom of Hungary. John preached a crusade against them and took part in the battle on 22 July 1456 in which John Hunyadi, his army and John’s peasant crusaders lifted the siege and defeated the Turks, keeping Christian Europe safe from Turkish invasion for the next 70 years.     Plague spread through the camp and John died of it, at Ilok, in what is now Croatia, on 23 October 1456. He shows no respect of personages to the detriment of a poor man,     he listens to the plea of the injured party. THE FOUR SMART STUDENTS

Image
One night four college students were out partying late night and didn’t study for the test which was scheduled for the next day. In the morning, they thought of a plan. They made themselves look dirty with grease and dirt. Then they went to the Dean and said they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their way back the tire of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back. So they were in no condition to take the test. The Dean thought for a minute and said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time. On the third day, they appeared before the Dean. The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, all four were required to sit in separate classrooms for the test. They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days. The Test consisted of only 2 questions with the total of 100 Points. 1) Your Name __________ (1 Points) 2) Which tire burst? __________ (99 Points) Options – (a) Front

EVENING DINNER

Image
A son took his old father to a restaurant for an evening dinner.  Father being very old and weak, while eating, dropped food on his shirt and trousers.  Other diners watched him in disgust while his son was calm. After he finished eating, his son who was not at all embarrassed, quietly took him to the washroom, wiped the food particles, removed the stains, combed his hair and fitted his spectacles firmly.  When they came out, the entire restaurant was watching them in dead silence, not able to grasp how someone could embarrass themselves publicly like that.  The son settled the bill and started walking out with his father. At that time, an old man amongst the diners called out to the son and asked him, “Don’t you think you have left something behind?”. The son replied, “No sir, I haven’t”. The old man retorted, “Yes, you have!  You left a lesson for every son and hope for every father”. The restaurant went silent. Moral: To care for those who once

THE POWER OF THE WORD OF THE LORD

Today's Verse “But, his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” - Psalms 1:2 Have you ever bought furniture that has to be assembled? You open the box, and there are thousands of pieces that must be put together. There is usually an instruction sheet that contains a detailed guide with pictures. However, unless you are a gifted handyman, this probably doesn’t make much difference. The journey of life is sort of like that box of furniture pieces. It is a jumbled conglomerate of different pathways that require guidance. However, the one and only true guide book for the journey in the word of the Lord. His words are truth and provide real direction and victory. When you keep it in your heart, it will bring you delight and show you the path for your footsteps. He will then walk with you every step of the way. – Commentary by Lisa M. Leto Today's Prayer Lord, thank You for Your word and for the ligh

About Today Year: C(II). Psalm week: 1. Liturgical Colour: Green. St John of Bridlington (1319 - 1379) Hallam, Middlesbrough John of Bridlington was born in about 1319. His family name was Thwing and it is likely that he was born in the village of that name a few miles inland from the east Yorkshire coastal town of Bridlington – or Burlington as it was then called. As a young man he was sent to Oxford to pursue his studies, but after two years he returned home. Soon afterwards, at the age of twenty, he entered the religious life under the rule of the Canons Regular of St Augustine and joined the ancient Priory of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Bridlington.     Though he held various offices in his community, John was unconcerned about his own advancement being totally preoccupied by public prayer and private devotion. When first elected to the office of prior he persuaded his fellow canons to choose someone else. But in time, when the office fell vacant again, he was oblig

CARRIED TO THE END

Image
Today's Verse “Even to your old age I am he, even when you turn gray I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” -Isaiah 46:4 Each new chapter of life brings different fears and worries; as well as joys and adventures. It can be scary leaving childhood behind, facing middle age, or reaching the later years. Thankfully, we’re not alone in this journey. Whatever may be facing us, we don’t have to do it by ourselves. Even though we’re adults now, we have someone to hold us, carry us, and be a Father to us—that someone is God! It is so reassuring to know that He will always be with us and take care of us. From the time we take our first breath to the time we take our last. Don’t be afraid of the days ahead. Whether you’re just starting out or whether you’re in “your old age,” God is here for you! – Commentary by Traci Elliott Today's Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You that we can call You Father and that You
