Today's Verse

“When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.” – Jonah 3:10
Sometimes it’s really difficult to grasp how God works, isn’t it? There are moments when it seems His love is all that we see. While this is true, God reveals His love in many different ways. In this instance, God had just told the Ninevites that He was going to destroy them but they repented and God changed His mind, so to speak. In our lives, there may be those moments in which we feel like all that’s hitting us is the bad but the reality is that God is working even harder in the those times. The warning that was given through Jonah really caught the King's attention and he called the city to repentance. This lead to the entire city coming back to God, seeking forgiveness and God acting justly. – Commentary by Matthew Elliott

Today's Prayer

Father God, there are times I’ve needed to repent and haven’t done so until the last possible moment. Today, I pray that You hold me accountable to those moments and continually remind me of Your love. In Jesus's name Amen.

INSTRUMENTS OF GOD

The Holy Trinity  “Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” Luke 10:16 Jesus makes a threefold connection in this passage. He connects you to Him and Himself to the Father. Thus, when you are acting as a true instrument of the Lord, and another either listens to or rejects what you bring to them, then they are either listening to or rejecting not only you but also our Lord and the Father in Heaven. One thing this reveals is the awesome responsibility we all have to bring the love and mercy of the Father in Heaven to those whom we encounter every day. We are able to be true instruments of God. In making such a strong connection between us, Himself and the Father in Heaven, Jesus is elevating our human dignity to an incredible level. The time has come for us to remind ourselves of what this country used to be. Modernization and perhaps civilization has made us all so comfortable we pay little or no attention to our historical background. The only time we feel the need to get informed about the history of this great country is when we have job interviews to attend.
