THE CITY OF JOY

Today's Verse

“And this city shall be to me the name of joy, a praise and a glory before the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them.“ – Jeremiah 33:9a
We can be a city of Joy that shines brightly for God’s glory. Facing the troubles of the life we endure on earth can teach us many things about what is good and how to overcome the bad. The beauty of it all is that we don’t have to do any of it on our own. In a previous verse we are promised that God will “restore their fortunes…and rebuild them as they were [or should be.”(V7) In the verses surrounding today’s verse, we are given a promise of peace; with peace comes joy. As you let the joy of your heart reign alongside the peace God has promised, He can use you to do many wonderful things. Go forth and shine brightly on the hill as a great city of joy today. – Commentary by Matthew Elliott

Today's Prayer

Father, joy is the key to happiness. Today, I pray that You will show me how to embrace being the city of joy You desire me to be to those around me. Your peace is my joy. Amen.

INSTRUMENTS OF GOD

The Holy Trinity  “Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” Luke 10:16 Jesus makes a threefold connection in this passage. He connects you to Him and Himself to the Father. Thus, when you are acting as a true instrument of the Lord, and another either listens to or rejects what you bring to them, then they are either listening to or rejecting not only you but also our Lord and the Father in Heaven. One thing this reveals is the awesome responsibility we all have to bring the love and mercy of the Father in Heaven to those whom we encounter every day. We are able to be true instruments of God. In making such a strong connection between us, Himself and the Father in Heaven, Jesus is elevating our human dignity to an incredible level. The time has come for us to remind ourselves of what this country used to be. Modernization and perhaps civilization has made us all so comfortable we pay little or no attention to our historical background. The only time we feel the need to get informed about the history of this great country is when we have job interviews to attend. The current affairs being taught at the primary school is not doing enough justice as many adults do not have the basic knowledge of how this country evolved and came to be what it is now.
