8 LIES YOU'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT VIRGINITY, HYMEN

Recently, I have come across a number of posts on social media of women claiming to be virgins but they have engaged in every other sexual act except penetration.
What really is virginity? The dictionary definition is: the state of never having had sexual intercourse.
Female virginity is traditionally defined as the state of a woman who has not engaged in penis-vagina sexual intercourse.
So what about all of the people who are engaged in several sexual activities, but aren’t having penetrative sex?
Can you still call yourself a virgin if you kiss, cuddle and have oral and phone sex?
There are a lot of misconceptions people have about the hymen and virginity and if one is not careful, you begin to believe them.
Below are 8 misconceptions about virginity.
1. The hymen is located inside the vagina: Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t locatedinside of the vagina. It’s just a thin membrane located at the opening of the vagina.

2. Your hymen is a sign of virginity: Having a hymen has nothing to do with virginity. Some women aren’t even born with one. The hymen can easily tear from physical exercise such as cycling, horseback riding and during a gynecological examination. There are plenty of virgins who don’t have their hymens intact. So a woman without a hymen could certainly still be a virgin.
3. There has to be blood after your first time having sex to prove you were a virgin: For some, it is normal to bleed after your first time of having sex, but it doesn’t always happen like that for every girl. You may not bleed after your first sexual experience, but that doesn’t mean you weren’t a virgin.
4. The hymen is broken during intercourse: The hymen is just a body part and can be torn during sex or other physical activity but, they don’t break.

5. A girl can’t lose her virginity to another girl: Many people have different definitions for virginity and they often refer to penis-vagina penetration. Two girls definitely lose their virginity to one another.
6. A virgin can’t get pregnant without penetration: The chances are much less likely but it’s still possible. If semen gets in your vagina, yes, it is possible to get pregnant even without penetration. Sperm can swim up the vagina if they are strong enough.
7. Virgins are religious freaks: Some people chose to abstain from sex for a number of reasons which are not even associated with religion. It could be because they are still searching for the right person. So, it’s everyone who is a virgin for religious purposes.
8. Being a virgin makes you better than non-virgins: Choosing to remain celibate doesn’t make you better than others. You made your choice and they also made theirs. There are plenty of virgins who are evil and there plenty of sexually active individuals who are innocent. Being a virgin or not doesn’t define who you are.
